Don’t Stop Me Now: How the band Queen couldn’t even save my music/games business.

In the six years between 2010 and 2016, Cliff tried to grow a technology games/music business out of Birmingham. During his time at SoshiGames, Cliff;
• Secured major deals with Queen, The Beatles, Universal Music and Sony Music
• Raised £1.3m investment funding
• Built a studio of up to 15 developers
• Built games achieving over 1m users globally
• Beat Angry Birds in the gaming charts!

Despite deals with bands like Queen and significant social media promotional activities out to 10s of millions of fans, Cliff had no choice in 2016 but to start the liquidation process for SoshiGames.

Cliff now spends some of his time at Innovation Birmingham helping other start-up founders through the pitfalls of growth. In this talk, Cliff describes the literally rock and roll journey of trying to build a tech businesses in the fast moving games and music industries and offers plenty to think about for other entrepreneurs. Cliff will talk about how they found and raised angel and institutional funding, social media promotion, getting the right team, doing the right deals and ultimately how even a deal with one of the biggest bands on the planet couldn’t save his business.
